Our Breeding Philosophy

Purpose-Bred. Health-Tested. Raised to Thrive.
At Paradise Tollers, we carefully plan each breeding with a focus on health, temperament, structure, and versatility. Our goal is to produce confident, capable Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers that excel as hunting companions, performance dogs, and beloved family members.

Why the name Paradise Tollers?

Paradise Tollers is a tribute to our home state of Louisiana, proudly known as Sportsman’s Paradise. Our breeding program reflects that heritage, producing Tollers with the intelligence, versatility, and temperament to excel in the field, in performance sports, and at home with their families.

Is a Toller right for you?

Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers are intelligent, athletic, and incredibly rewarding companions, but they are not the right fit for every home.

Tollers thrive when given training, structure, and a job to do. They are active dogs that require both physical exercise and mental engagement. While they are affectionate with their families, they are not always the easygoing, low-maintenance companion some people expect. They are not “small red Golden Retrievers.” Tollers tend to be more intense, more sensitive, and often more demanding of their owners’ time and attention.

For the right owner, a Toller can be an exceptional hunting partner, performance dog, adventure companion, and beloved family member. For the wrong owner, their intelligence and energy can quickly become overwhelming.

We believe finding the right home is every bit as important as producing the right puppy.

One Toller Changed Everything

After losing my Border Collie, I knew I wanted my next dog to be a hunting dog. In 2016, I brought home Westin from Judy Webb of Snapdragon Tollers, planning for him to be my hunting dog and most importantly my companion. When Judy asked me enter Westin in conformation, I followed her guidance and entered my first dog show. Westin’s early success opened the door to a world I never expected, and what began with one hunting dog soon grew into a passion for the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever and the creation of Paradise Tollers.

Today, our dogs participate in conformation, performance sports, hunting activities, and breed preservation efforts while remaining, first and foremost, beloved family companions.

Health Testing

Health Tested Means More

A veterinary checkup does not replace health testing. Responsible breeding programs invest in the evaluations and screenings recommended for their breed.

Genetics Are Only the Beginning

DNA testing is important, but it is only one part of responsible breeding. Structural, cardiac, ophthalmologic, and orthopedic evaluations all play a role.

An Informed Buyer is a Better Buyer

Whether you choose Paradise Tollers or another breeder, we encourage you to ask questions, verify health testing results, and understand what responsible breeding looks like.

Apply for a Puppy

Finding the right home matters just as much as producing the right litter.
We take time to get to know each family, their goals, lifestyle, and expectations before placing a puppy. Whether you’re looking for a hunting companion, performance partner, or active family dog, our goal is to make the best match for both puppy and owner.
